Effects of Cortisone , Testerone , and Digoxin on Heart of Male Mice

Abstract

|
For the assement of the effect of cortisone, testoseteronIe and digoxin on the. heart, an experimental study was carried out in male mice and the histopathological evaluation of the results were as follows.
1. Decrease of body weight of the animal was observed in both cortisone treated and cortisone plus digoxin treated group, while in the testosterone treated group it showed an increase.
2. Both cortisone treated and cortisone plus digoxin treated groups showed localized destruction and inflammatory changes of the myocardium, but no pathological changes were noted in the digoxin group.
3. Activities of alkaline phosphatase in arterioles and capillaries were present in alll experimental groups, and most prominent in both cortisone treated and cortisone plus digoxin treated group.
4. Sudan Black B stained granules of connective tissue cells around the arterial wall in the cortisone and cortisone plus digoxin groups. No significant differences were observed between the control and digoxin treated group.
